Time-Medical Inc. Towers

The Science Park Towers headquarters for the Client Time-Medical Inc. in Taizhou, China incorporates state-of-the-art sustainable, environmentally friendly and information-technology features to make it an outstanding precedent for future live/work developments in the “Medical City”— China’s newly-formed national high-tech park dedicated to biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.

A major component of the project features offices and a Training Center with laboratories devoted to the research, design, manufacture, distribution and maintenance of advanced MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) systems. The Client company is a renowned world-wide leader in the fields of microelectronics and biomedical engineering, focused on applying cutting-edge innovation to develop and commercialize high-performance MRI scanners—including the revolutionary use of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) Coils.

The structure is envisioned to become a landmark symbol of Taizhou, evoking medical and science-related forms through an architectural statement that captures the energy of this unique place. Our design concept is based on a powerful, sculptural configuration of two towers linked by a verdant “conservatory bridge” and surrounded by reflecting pools. The towers reduce energy usage by generating their own electricity through building-integrated Photovoltaic solar panels on the roofs and walls, and a micro-turbine. At night, the exterior surfaces of the towers are illuminated as “media facades” to become glowing lanterns for the city.
