A new Global Hub for next generation leaders in Southeast Asia

The new Asia School of Business (ASB) / MIT Sloan will be a local, regional and global hub to develop the next generation of leaders in the rapidly transforming Southeast Asia Region.

This international collaboration between ASB and the MIT Sloan School will focus on innovative teaching and research, supported by partnerships with industry and community, to address emerging global challenges. Teaching spaces are reimagined as flexible loft-like laboratories.  They support FabLabKL creative maker-spaces with cutting edge technologies. They create adaptable environments for experimentation, collaboration and emerging AR and VR technologies. Immersive Action Learning, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and digital and cultural leadership will support student and faculty engagement in the world’s fastest growing digital economy.

The 400,000 square foot graduate school was designed, along with campus housing for 700 students and faculty, to create a 24/7 community linked by shaded pathways, courtyards and gardens.  The design is informed by the artistic heritage of Malaysian Songket textiles, whose geometries are reinterpreted through advanced parametric design and Digital CNC manufacturing. The campus is planned as a  community of networked collaboration and gathering spaces along a gently curving path that negotiates the topography of the site. This physical organization is a contemporary reinterpretation of the site planning of traditional Malaysian villages. Passive design, parametric environmental analysis and timeless techniques for sun control, daylighting and natural ventilation create sustainable solutions for building in this tropical climate.
